HighGUI developments

Tuesday 2 May 2006, by Jean-Baptiste Le Stang

I’m glad to report that the GUI part of HighGUI is getting near from a usable state, now the keyboard is being handled, the mouse also, the video is displaying much faster than before, the tracbars are also working smoothly and the expected behaviour of an application under Mac OS X is there !

Since Apple did release Intel powered computers and Intel did announce IPP on Mac OS X, there has been a lot of folks interested by making OpenCV run on MacTel, and so far it seems like it is working on both PPC and Intel

A working version of the file dedicated to GUI has been made available online, it supersed the one previously released on my website.

- WiKi opencv
- windows_macosx.cpp
- Intel downloads

On the site you will also see the enhancements we are looking to add to OpenCV.

Thanks for the work on openCV. I have a question. I really need to be able to write and read movies using OpenCV. Thus I have downloaded the latest CVS version of OpenCV from the MACOSX development branch and have compiled and installed it. I know this uses QuickTime as the video backend so the support is better for my purposes. However, there seems to be a problem with the windows namely, that they don’t respond to key presses. I realize that they use Carbon rather than X11 now and there seems to be a problem.

Do you know how to fix this issue or know of a workaround. I need that functionality as well so I’m sort of caught between the X11 FFmpeg version and the current version. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I’m using Mac OS 10.4.7 these days.
